Video – Latest WordPress Update – WordPress 2.9 Carmen

By Dave | January 17, 2010

The latest WordPress 2.9 Carmen (in honor of Carmen McRae – Jazz Vocalist) has been out since the end of 2009, so now they’ve had chance to iron out a few of the initial bugs I’ve decided to make a quick video to show you some of the latest improvements. Moving from WordPress 2.8 to 2.9 is quite a big change and they have introduced some really great new features which will make life a lot easier and save you  more time!

Some of the New Features Include:

1) Upgrade Multiple Plugins at Once

2) Images – New Image Editor

3) Video Embedding – Easier to Publish Videos

4) TRASH Feature (avoid accidentally deleting important posts!)

Here’s my quick Video Overview of WORDPRESS 2.9 CARMEN and Summary of the main new changes and benefits…

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for leaving a comment – I appreciate it!

Before I’d seen this comment I’d sent you a quick email – so you can ignore the bit about checking out my latest post as you’ve obviously seen it already!

    The 2 backup plugins are:

    WordPress Backup (BTE)
    wp db backup

Just go to your Plugins menu and click on “Add New” then search the two phrases above and the plugins should appear at the top of your list.

The first one backs up your Plugins, Themes and Media files – the second one backs up your wordpress database. Overall they don’t cover every single thing – but if you use those two at least you will have most of the important bits covered.

The other bits you might want to manually copy every week or so are other folders within your wpcontent folder excluding themes, plugins etc as covered by the first plugin.

    Hope that makes sense!

Thanks and best wishes – Dave

    Thanks Dave,

Yes your answer makes sense. I keep finding different bits and pieces on things I didn’t know from watching your videos. You’re a great resource. As soon as my site is up and running I’ll be sure to mention you in one of my post.

    Thanks again,

    Brian

Thanks Vince – yes you’re right, I have got that on my list of things to do – so when it’s been done everyone who has subscribed to my list will be the first to know.

    Best wishes – Dave
